Illini Everywhere
This series of extensive bibliographical narratives, about the origins and student life experiences of students from a variety of cultural and international backgrounds, used primary resources available in the University Archives and University Library. Most blog posts include documented examples of early University of Illinois administrative or faculty work in different nations, internal and external expert guest lecturers, followed by early University alumni, then immigrant, refugee, and international student examples, and student cultural organization origins or activities. A few special blog posts examine how different student cultural populations facilitated multicultural or international education projects and programs.

#ala1876, Twitter Tweet Campaign, May to September, 2016
In anticipation of the American Library Association's 140th anniversary, I transcribed select quotations from planning correspondence for the first ALA conference in 1876. These posts used the hashtag #ala1876, which was the conventional marker for recent ALA Annual Conference hashtags (e.g. #ALA2016). Each quotation was tweeted, on the 140th anniversary date of the respective original letter. The intention was to recreate the experience of slower-received paper communications across today's instant digital communications, while showing the difficulties in planning an annual conference, in a summer-long anticipation-building project for the upcoming conference and the 140th Anniversary online exhibit in October.- (Announcement About Upcoming Hashtag Series). American Library Association Archives
"Celebrating the Organizers!: 140 Years of Library Conference Planners in Letters and Images at the ALA Archives". Curated by Salvatore V. De Sando, Cara Setsu Bertram, Madison Well, Sharon Pietryka, and Leanna Barcelona. [www][Twitter]This project highlighted the ALA Archives' holdings pertaining to the 1853 Librarians' Convention as well as the ALA Annual Conferences of 1876, 1926, 1951, and 1976, as the American Library Association celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2016. The exhibit includes brief narratives of how the historical conferences were celebrated and organized, as well as explanations of how the ALA Archives' historical conference records collections were created or expanded. While many celebratory events highlight organizational milestones, this project aimed to highlight the role of conference planners as well as the role of archives (and archives record donors) in preserving those records. In anticipation of the 150th anniversary in 2026, thinking of the next decade, this work was also a pilot project to begin exploring how the ALA Archives' holdings and services could be leveraged to support planning work for the future conference and beyond.
